PURIFICACIÓN GARCÍA IS A SPANISH DESIGNER AND STYLIST
After an internship of many years in Uruguay, dedicated to knitwear and accessories design. Significantly presented her first collection in Barcelona in 1981 and stood out above all with the grand evening models. In 1998 she created a brand in her name. The manufacturing and marketing, with the brand Purificación García, would be STL commissioned.
She mainly dealt with the design and direction of the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, with related accessories.
However, in November 1999 her relationship with STL took a radical turn when, during the renegotiation of her contract, she was accused by the Dominguez brothers of industrial espionage, even going so far as to be arrested at the Vigo airport. The complaint was filed three months later, and the conflict was resolved in an out-of-court settlement with which García continued her relationship with STL, which lasts to this day. According to the same Purificación García,
“Many designers stayed on the road because they didn’t know how to work with the industry. Maybe it’s an ego problem. You have to leave it aside. When you sign with a group you have to know very well what you will find and make sure that the balance is balanced: you lose certain freedom of action, but you win in expansion, in the ability to reach people, in diffusion … I finally understood it, but it cost me».
