About the designer
Although Lorenzo Serafini is Milanese by adoption, he was born in Riccione in 1973. Since he was a young child, he has been passionate about fashion, and during his adolescence, he collected magazines, themed videotapes, and newspaper cuttings featuring photos of Bruce Weber and Steven Meisel. He studied fashion design at Milan’s Naba-Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, where he obtained his degree.
He competed in and won the Professione Moda Giovani Stilisti National Competition held by CNA Federmoda. One of the prizes is an internship at a fashion company, and the designer ends up working at Blumarine. After working for Anna Molinari’s maison for five years, he went to Roberto Cavalli to become the head of the womenswear division. Ten years later, he received a call from Dolce & Gabbana, who trusted him with the fashion collections and subsequently the first line.

As part of the Aeffe SPA Group (which also distributes Alberta Ferretti, Moschino, and Pollini), Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini was founded in 1984 and he was appointed Creative Director in 2014. Serafini had never been the face of a company before. The brand had an emphasis on occasionwear and clothes when he arrived. He brings with him the children’s line and accessories to the Philosophy universe. A successful tactic. Sales have more than doubled since he arrived.
The first collection
His debut took place with the autumn-winter 2015-16 pre-collection, while the first fashion show took place during the Milano fashion week in February 2015. On the catwalk: angelic models, without make-up, inspired by his teenage muse, Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby. To launch the collection, Serafini also decided to rely on a video, starring his friend Chiara Ferragni, who will collaborate with the brand and Lorenzo countless times.
“My Icon Girls” Podcast
The theme of muses recurs in the work of the creative designer. For the designer, every collection is inspired by one of them. From Chloë Sevigny to Jane Birkin, from Lady Diana to Patty Pravo, via Alessandra Mastronardi and Isabella Rossellini. In 2020, he launched the podcast “My Icon Girls”, in which he recounts the lives and anecdotes of the women who are part of his imagination and the moodboards of his fashion shows.
Spring/ Summer 2021- Back to the origins with “carte blanche”
Serafini’s collections have a romanticism that is reminiscent of Alberta Ferretti, the label’s founder. However, the designer says that they gave him unlimited freedom. His conception of femininity and style is close to the founder’s. It’s in his DNA to be delicate and romantic with a hint of the past. All shook in a decidedly modern manner.
The designer envisions a painter who loves the outdoors strolling through her garden in the spring and summer of 2021. His white clothing has been “soiled” by colorful brushstrokes. He experiments with clothes and accessories that overlap. The main characters include raffia flowers affixed to masculine-cut overalls, voluminous, crisp cotton shirts, Vichy corsets, rubber boots that are still stained with color, and lunchbox-esque bags.
