Paulin
Guy (1945-1990). French designer. Born in Lorena, he started working for the Printemps stores in Paris, first as a lift attendant, then as a buyer, which led him on to fashion design. In 1968 he moved to New York, where he worked with the American chain of boutiques Paraphernalia during the same years as Emmanuelle Khanh and Mary Quant. He returned to Paris in 1970 and joined forces with Georges Edelmann for a new collection. His work also took him to Italy where he signed a contract with the Girombelli Group in 1979. He designed for MicMac, Sportmax and others, until he presented his own women’s collection in 1980. For the period 1983-85 Chloé appointed him as artistic director, having just lost Karl Lagerfeld. In 1986 he started working for himself again and continued to do so until 1990, the year of his final collection and his death. Paulin is remembered mainly for his knitwear.
