Olivier Strelli

Olivier Strelli. Belgian ready-to-wear label. Nissim Israel (1946) left his native Zaire and moved to Brussels, where in 1975 he launched a fashion label called Olivier Strelli, taking his inspiration from traditional African fabrics. Starting off with a shirt collection, he later launched a complete menswear range, popular for its bright colors. Between 1983 and 1991 he opened three boutiques in Brussels and Paris, started out in women’s and children’s wear, and launched the Strelli perfume. In 1989 Sabena Airlines commissioned Strelli to design their flight attendants’ uniforms. By 1999 the Strelli label had become so successful that was distributed all over Europe, the USA, and Asia, both through its own-brand shops and a franchising operation.
Galerie Ravenstein of Brussels invited Strelli and 15 other couturiers to contribute to an exhibition called Fame On You, a tribute to the greatest pioneer of Pop Art, Andy Warhol, revisiting his themes through photographs and fashion drawings.
Strelli’s label is now present throughout Europe: it has showrooms in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Greece, and Scandinavia, and about 20 shops.
