Melton

The Melton is a wool opaque fabric, fulled by the homonymous work process. Its name comes from English town of Melton, where it was produced for the first time.

Characteristics

The Melton is a medium weight fabric, whose hand is soft and warm, realized by a circasso or twill weave from both combed and carded fabrics. The fulling hides its weave and makes its surface smooth, similar to felt, and water- and wind-resistant.

Moreover, the fulling allows the fabric to have its thermal insulation, which makes it perfect to realize blankets and outerwear and to add internal lining to winter jackets; in its light version, it can also be used for menswear suits and for collars.
