Ma Ke is an important Chinese designer of the new generation

Ma Ke is an important Chinese designer and environmentalist of the new generation, originally from Changcgun. Born in 1971, she has a philosophical approach to fashion, which through the creation of her clothes led her to a real artistic research. Graduated in 1992, she began her career as a stylist, getting great recognition in the world of Chinese fashion right from the start. She is famous for becoming the fashion designer of Peng Liyuan, China’s first lady. She is one of the most sought after signatures of haute couture.

In 1994, at 23, she got the gold medal at 2nd China International Young Fashion Designers Contest “Brother Cup”. As of, 1995 she won the title of “10 top Fashion Designer of China”. By 1996 she created the “Exception” brand, becoming design director.

Her brand Exception de Mixmind is distributed in more than 60 stores throughout China and represents one of the most loved brands by intellectuals and artists, as evidenced by the award that director Jia Zhangke obtained at the 2007 Venice Film Festival for a documentary on Ma Ke’s creations.

In 2006 Ma Ke decided to leave Guangzhou city, where she had lived and worked for 14 years, for Zhuhai. In Zhuhai she founded a non-profit organization, on the basis of which the “Wuyong” (Useless) workshop was born, aimed at the protection, transmission and innovation of traditional crafts.

The second brand Wuyong has been presented at the Paris Fashion Week since 2007 with great success. Dreamy atmospheres, abstract reworkings of traditional Chinese clothes with Western influences.
