LeMaire

Charles (1897-1985). American designer and costume designer. He won three Oscars (Eve against Eve with Edith Head, The Tunic and Love is a Many Splendored Thing). He is part of cinema history, in particular for clothing Marilyn Monroe in her most important films: the red dress in Niagara or the flimsy pleated white dress lifted by the rushing air of the subway in The Seven Year Itch. Originally an actor, his real career started with Broadway shows, like The Ziegfield Follies. After moving to the world of cinema, he became head costume designer at Fox and participated in several productions, often working with other designers. He also worked in other kinds of films, thrillers included, such as The Kiss of Death. Without giving up the cinema, he opened his own atelier, designing clothes for the females stars in their private life. In 1962 he retired to devote himself to his favorite activities: reading and painting.
