Kiam

Omar, artistic name of Alexander Kiam (1894-1954). Mexican designer. Born in Monterey, he designed for a department store in Texas, then he worked as a freelancer in New York before leaving to study in Paris. He designed for theater on Broadway, then the cinema. In 1933 he was appointed costume director of Samuel Goldwyn Productions and United Artists, where he created models for Janet Gaynor (A Star Is Born), Miriam Hopkins, and Merle Oberon. He then moved on to work with the producers David Selznick and Hal Roach. He worked once more with Merle Oberon in Wuthering Heights (1938), co-starring Lawrence Olivier, which was also his last movie.
