Hawes

Elisabeth (1903-1971). American designer. She was a modern and anti-conformist thinker. She created pants for women, having strongly stressed that pants were the most practical and comfortable piece of clothing in which to work and practise sport. She believed that young women were becoming increasingly involved in these two fields. Among other things, she constantly appealed for America’s independence from the European style rules, in particular from the tyranny of French fashion.
