A style based on the title character in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was made into a movie with Robert Redford in 1973. Since that time, and throughout the 1980s, Gatsby meant a style of men’s clothing inspired by the 1930s with loose-fitting, comfortable jackets, pleated trousers, shirts with white collars in thin stripes and in colors, two-tone shoes, and large-brimmed hats.
