Fuzzi

Knitwear company established in 1954 by Adele Bacchiani Fuzzi in San Giovanni in Marignano, near Cattolica. At first, the collections were created by the founder, manufactured on hand looms, and distributed on the domestic market through three agents. In the early 1970s, after graduating her degree, the founder’s daughter Anna Maria Fuzzi joined the company and created a staff of designers, opening the doors to the foreign market. Since then, the company has had continued success on an international level. One of the most important moments for the company was in 1983 when the first Jean-Paul Gaultier collection was created. In 1989 there was a partnership with Joop! And in 1993 one with Hugo Boss. In 2000, the company opened a production plant in Baragiano (Basilicata). In that same year it had sales of 89 billion liras. In 2002 it ended the year with sales of €70 million, a gross operating margin of more than €6 million, or 8.5% of sales, and a profit before tax of €5 million, or 7% of sales. The company employs 160 people. In 2003, it launched a new brand, Garbino, a line of men’s knitwear for the high end of the market. It also acquired Sima Fashion, a company that owns several knitwear brands including Nani Bon, Fiume, Sevres, and Portobellos. Today, Fuzzi exports 95% of its production, including 80% to Europe. The best markets are France, Germany, and England, as well as the U.S. and Japan.”
