Flambé

The term slubbing refers to an irregular torpedo-shaped thickening or twisting of a thread resulting from a technical defect in the spun yarn. Exploiting this defect in an ad hoc way, it is possible to produce slubby yarns which present a thickening at fixed intervals and with which fabrics like shantung or patterned knitwear can be produced. The term is also used for those fabrics that show “buttons” and lively colored strips, especially with very evident thickenings.
