Dominguez

Adolfo (1950). Spanish designer and the inventor of Iberian minimalism. After his study of aesthetics and cinematography in Paris, he joined his father’s tailoring workshop and transformed it into a fashion atelier. His first Collection was in 1983. A simple and fluid style that is natural, sober, and balanced provides the foundation for his vision of women’s and men’s fashion. During the 1980s he opened boutiques in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, and London. He also signed an agreement with a Japanese company for production and distribution in the Far East.
The U line is launched, aimed at young people over 15. It is fashion that is self-assured, high-tech, and romantic.
He enters the American market, with a boutique in Miami. Besides the shops in Madrid and Barcelona, which were opened in 1982, there are 181 stores (including 53 single-brand and 79 franchises) scattered throughout Europe, Latin America, China, Japan, and South-East Asia. The company employs 930 people, and the 2001 turnover was 17.5 billion pesetas.
The clothing line is supported by the “Mi casa” Collection, which offers three coordinated lines for bed and bath in natural fibers. A shop called ADC (Adolfo Dominguez Complements) is opened exclusively for accessories. The Unica cosmetics line is launched.
