Diotima is an emerging brand, founded in 2021 by Rachel Scott, characterized by crochet.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BRAND
Rachel Scott is a fashion designer born in Jamaica and raised in London. In 2007, she graduated from the Marangoni Institute in Milan and, in 2023 she was a finalist for the LVMH Prize. In 2021, she founded the brand which is named after the mistress of Eros from Plato’s Symposium.
The collections are designed between Jamaica and New York, but are also influenced by the designer’s experiences in England and Italy, through the use of European materials. All the crochet items, which are the heart of Diotima, are made in Jamaica. The designer’s goal is to present a seductive vision of Caribbean style, looking to the future while remaining anchored to the history of her country. In addition to the romantic dresses made entirely of crochet, the jackets with crochet inserts at the waist are particularly interesting.
Diotima’s first presentation during the New York Fashion Week of September 2023
Rachel Scott held her first presentation during the New York Fashion Week of September 2023 in a gallery in Chelsea. During the event, the models wore wooden hearts carved by the artist Laura Facey as necklaces, earrings, or belts.
