DIET PRADA: THE FASHION WATCH DOG

With 2.9 million followers, Diet Prada is the most feared Instagram account in the fashion world, born with the aim of telling what the fashion magazines do not say, openly denouncing the injustices of the fashion industry.

Diet Prada was created in 2014 by Tony Liu and Lindsey Schuyler, who remained anonymous for years. The two New Yorkers, fashion enthusiasts with a historical and photographic background, met while working at Eugenia Kim. In 2014 they had the idea of creating the account.

Diet Prada initially emphasized imitations, the first post in December 2014 spoke of a coat by Raf Simons very similar to one by Prada. Over time, it has expanded its reach by dealing with different issues: model abuse, racial discrimination and cultural appropriation.

It turned the spotlight on many scandals. The most famous one is the dispute with Dolce&Gabbana which, following the controversy relating to the DGLovesChina campaign, asked Diet Prada for damages of over $ 665 million for defamation.

In the first two years, the account only had 1,000 followers, and interest grew after Liu and Schuyler took on a more serious tone following Harvey Weinstein’s complaint from The New York Times. In 2017 the followers were more than 500,000 today they are 2.9 million, including the main professionals of the sector.
