De Carlis

Fur boutique in Rome. It was opened in 1972 by the two current owners, Carla and Rodolfo De Carlis, who began in a small workshop on via Vittoria, a street of small artisans, cabinet makers, restorers, goldsmiths, and watchmakers. At that time, the business premises were on the second floor of a historic building from the 1800s which during the 1840s was occupied by the most luxurious brothel in Rome. The building, subsequently purchased by De Carlis, has been completely restored and transformed into a mega-store and workshop. With the opening of boutiques which have replaced the old artisan shops, via Vittoria has become a shopping street. And the De Carlis firm has changed its image. After twenty years of selling just furs, they now offer knitwear, cashmere coats, leather clothing, and accessories. The new manufacturing techniques produce, among other things, ultra-light mini skirts, eel waistcoats with trimmed in fox, sheepskin jackets transformed into astrakhans. The furs are treated, shaved, knitted, and used for the insides of cashmere and leather garments.
