Ciccio

Professional name of Francesco Liberto (1936), a made-to-measure shoemaker. He is famous especially in the world of auto races, of Formula One and other rallies, for his very light driving shoes which are comfortable, in colors, sturdy, and fireproof. His workshop is on the seafront of Cefalù, where he was born. He first began to be known among the drivers of the Targa Florio race. Several drivers were among his clients, including Regazzoni, Icks, Alboreto, and Lauda. He also had a place in high fashion: his women’s shoes accompanied the dresses of Pucci, Marucelli, and the Fontana sisters in several editions of Maremoda Capri during the 1960s. In particular, he had great success with his cloth-covered boots, I Muccatturi, which reproduced patterns from the handkerchiefs of Sicilian carters. He is still at work.
