The history of Capri Holdings Limited

The group (NYSE: CPRI, already known as Michale Kors Holdings Limited) is a holding which operates in the fashion world, based in Virgin Island and with offices in London and New York, founded in 1981 by American fashion designer Michael Kors.

After having launched, in 1981, the homonymous womenswear brand, the fashion designer started designing for other companies too, so in 1997 he was appointed ready-to-wear fashion designer for Céline. When he left that role, in October 2003, in order to give more attention to his brand, the fashion designer constituted the Michael Kors Holdings Limited (MKHL). In July 2017 the MKHL acquired the brand Jimmy Choo for 897 million pounds and in September 2018 he acquired Versace for 2,1 billion dollars. On 2nd January 2019 the company was renamed Capri Holdings.

With a 10.42% stake, The Vanguard Group, Inc. is the company’s largest shareholder. With a 3.777% stake, PRIMECAP Management Co. is one of the other significant shareholders.

In August 2023 the Capri Holdings received an offer from American conglomerate Tapestry, which offered 8,5 billion dollars to acquire its property and debts: Capri Holdings soon became owned by Tapestry. In this way the new company will do business in 75 countries, with a turnover of 12 billion dollars every year.
