Byron
Lars Byron (1965) was an american designer. He made his début with a prêt-à-porter Collection in 1991 and Women’s Wear Daily named him “Rookie of the Year.” Born in Oakland, he studied at the Brooks Fashion Institute in Long Beach, California, and at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. He believes in the spectacular effect of models. The New York Times included him in the group of the “magnificent eight” together with Donna Karan and Calvin Klein.
Starting in 1997, dolls were the real creative passion of the Oakland designer. With the support of Mattel, every year Byron produced a different model of Barbie, inspired by the ethnic Afro-American tradition. Destined to be always “sold out” and the object of fierce collecting were the Indigo Barbie (2000), Mbili (2002), and the most recent, the Tatu Barbie.
