Braghenti

Braghenti was a silk factory near Como. It was established in 1901 by Luigi Braghenti, limited partner and administrator. The factory, with a plant in Malnate (Va) and the headquarters in Como, specializes in the manufacture and trade of silk for ties and women’s clothing. In 1921, Alberto Andina, an important figure in Como’s financial circles, became president, while Luigi Braghenti kept the role of vice-president and general manager. In 1931, Nico Castellini joined the board of directors and the factory would progressively come under the control of the Castellini family, which for women’s clothing preferred linen fabrics to silk and rayon. In 1967, Nico’s sons Vittorio and Paolo took over management of the company. In 1988, the acquisition of almost the entire capital stock by Ratti brought on a further evolution: wool and Winter fibers were produced alongside linen up to the end of the 1990s, when Braghenti was completely absorbed within Ratti.
