Bouet-Willaumez

René Bouet-Willaumez (1900-1979) was a french illustrator. It was Mainbocher, the director of the French edition of Vogue, that hired him at his magazine in 1929, after a short experience in industry as an engineer. He would work with Vogue for three decades, until the end of his career. With him, illustration, still tied to the style of Art Deco, experienced a clear and meaningful shift. His name is associated with one of the most beautiful periods in fashion illustration. Styles simplifed, acquiring spontaneity and lightness, sketched with a pencil that was incisive and personal.
