Benito

Benito was a pseudonym of Eduardo Garcìa (1891-1953), a Spanish illustrator. As a child he was part of the workshop of the painter Mignon, and later he enrolled at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. He moved to Paris, where he found a job at the Gazette du Bon Ton. It was the 1920s, the years of Art Deco. But Benito was interested in Cubism and his graphic style was favorably influenced by it, bringing a new spirit to the illustrations in fashion magazines such as GoÃt du Jour and La Guirlande. Vogue understood his art and gave him a platform for it, to the point of becoming identified with his graphic style. He illustrated several books and also made many portraits.
