Bellaish

Victor Bellaish (1968) was an israeli designer, slightly older than 30, born in Tel Aviv, where he attended the Academy of Textile Technology majoring in fashion design. He is a newcomer already known in the fashion world for the strong personality of his work, which, in 1996, conquered the public of Gorizia and won the Mittelmoda award. Roberto Cavalli noticed him as well, and Victor would work with him for four years, learning subtle ways to create seductive clothes which, nevertheless, he would interpret in his own way, favoring black over wild patterns. The turning point came in 2000: he collaborated with Les Copains and he went out on his own. His hometown celebrated him as the “first Israeli designer with his own Collection.” The idea, of course, was to conquer the public at Milano Moda Donna. He succeeded with the presentation of the Collection for Spring-Summer 2001, when he presented a kind of woman-insect in the grip of disturbing and dangerous fantasies, with scorpions chasing each other, stung by thorns, with rubber prickles undulating on fabrics so sheer that they look like colored air, and winged sleeves. The scorpion wasn’t a casual choice, however. It is considered a sacred creature in his country. He is highly skilled in mixing different and unlikely materials: leather, denim, silicon, silk and chiffon, a “blob” which wants to emphasize a femininity that plays with contrasts, hard and soft at the same time.
