Kenneth (1927). American hairdresser. Famous in the 1960s for his impeccable dome-shaped hairdos, he soon became Jackie Kennedy’s favorite hairdresser, while his work was immortalized on the cover of Vogue America by models like Veruschka and Jean Shrimpton. His hairstyles are characterized by an impressive formal elaboration and by the frequent use of hairpieces for the most refined effects.
He leaves the hair salon at the Waldorf-Astoria, by now a New York institution, and the management is taken over by the young Kevin Lee.
Publication of Michael Gordon’s book Hair Heroes, dedicated to the most important American hair stylists. Kenneth Battelle is remembered as “the one who invented Jackie Kennedy’s fluffy hairdo.”
