Alexa Chung is a model, TV host, journalist and designer of her eponymous brand

She was born in Privett, in Hampshire, on the 5th of November 1983. Her father was an English designer of Chinese descent and her mother is an English housewife. She attended the King’s College in London and then majored in art at the Chelsea College of Art and Design. At the age of sixteen she was noticed at the Reading Festival by some workers of the Elite Model Management agency and so she signed her first modeling contract. Ice eyes and thick black hair made her conquer magazines like Cover Girl, Elle Girl and Cosmo Girl. Chung also appeared in the advertising campaigns of well-known brands such as Fanta, Sony Ericsson, Sunsilk and Tampax.

In 2003 she took part in the reality show Shoot Me and three years later she began her career as a presenter. After also working for the BBC and Channel 4, Alexa Chung moved to New York to present the program It’s On with Alexa Chung. She is a face known to the general public, and she went back to modeling becoming the face of the brands New Look, DKNY Jeans, Vivienne Westwood, Red Label, Pepe Jeans. Since the 30th of July 2012 she has been the host of the Lifetime talent show, 24 hour catwalk. Chung was very successful and in 2020 she continued to sign television contracts, this time with Netflix, for the Next in Fashion program with Tan France.

CAREER IN FASHION

After having written and signed the column of the Independent, in 2009 she also began collaborating with British Vogue as an editorial collaborator. In the same year Mulberry created the Chung-inspired “Alexa bag”, which increased the brand’s sales by 79%. The success allowed the renewal of the collaboration with the brand in 2021 for the creation of a new limited edition collection.

In 2010 she was honoured with the BFC’s British Style Award for embodying the spirit of British fashion and serving as an international ambassador for the UK. The same year, she was the face of Lacoste’s latest fragrance, The Joy of Pink, becoming the first female celebrity to appear in a campaign for the French brand. In February 2013, she directed the campaign for Stella McCartney’s Comic Relief t-shirt collection alongside David Gandy and Kate Moss and shortly thereafter also became the spokesperson for L’Oréal Professional and the face of Longchamp.

In 2013, her first autobiography, It, was published, a compendium of style, advice and news about her career. The television experience officially consecrates her as a fashion trendsetter. Her look is simple and never monotonous. So in 2017 she launches her eponymous ready to wear fashion brand. The Alexachung clothing brand, in full Chung style, has a varied audience who loves casual clothing, combines comfort with the most fashionable style, able to combine bon ton and rock and roll. Founded in 2017 the eponymous brand is sold on Matches, Bergdorf Goodman, Net-a-Porter and Farfetech as well as on the official website

Additionally, Chung’s career has recently expanded from fashion to design and collaboration projects. He created two collections with Madewell, a 2019 eyewear collection with Sunglass Hut, with Superga and another longtime one with AG Jeans. He also drew the Barbour spring-summer 2021/2022 collection.

American Vogue Editor Anna Wintour called Alexa Chung “a phenomenon” and the New York Times dubbed her “the Kate Moss of the new generation”. 

In 2022 Chung decided to close her brand and temporarily move away from fashion.
