Zatteroni Platform sandals are open back sandals, without strap, with an exaggeratedly high wedge heel, in cork or covered in the same material as the upper, in canvas, hide, leather or suede.

They were particularly comfortable, if the wedge was of equal height from toe to heel. In fashion in the 70s, they were worn mainly by celebrities and style icons such as Elton John, David Bowie and Dave Evans, taking the name of “disco shoes”.

THE REVIVAL TWENTY YEARS LATER PLATFORM SANDALS: 1970s SANDALS WITH VERTIGOUS WEDGE HEELS

Zatteroni had a big revival in the 90s thanks to the British girl group Spice Girls. In particular, Geri Halliwell’s 1997 Brit Awards outfit became iconic: she wore a pair of platform sandals and a Gucci mini dress both with the UK flag print.

From that moment, the platform shoes became an emblem also in the new millennium, revisited and reinvented by all the most famous fashion houses in the world.
