Vigolo

Mario (1899-1978). Italian illustrator and designer. The brother of Giorgio Vigolo (a well known musicologist, who won the Bagutta prize in 1961 with his book Le notti romane, and a critic for the Italian newsweekly Il Mondo), after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts he immediately began to design fashion outfits and fabrics. In the 1930s, his creations were shown in the display windows of Piperno, on the Corso in Rome. He was one of the official illustrators invited to Paris for the diffusion and importation of French fashion to Italy. He worked with the Sartoria Zecca, the Sorelle Botti, Rina Pedrini and many other major names. He illustrated and commented on fashion in such specialty magazines as Moda, Fantasie d’Italia, Lidel and La Donna. In the postwar period as well, he collaborated with many high fashion houses, such as Veniceni, Schuberth, Carosa, Antonelli, Sorelle Fontana and Albertina. The magazine that made the greatest use of his illustrations was Costume.
