Tcherassi

Silvia (1966). Colombian fashion designer. She is a beautiful blonde, somewhere between Grace Kelly and Deborah Kerr. Born in Barranquilla, an industrial and port city overlooking the Caribbean Sea. She is married and has two children. She debuted at Milan’s Moda Donna with a Winter 2003-2004 Collection, after runway presentations in Paris, Dusseldorf, Washington, Los Angeles, and Miami, where she was chosen “New Star in Fashion.” On the occasion of BogotÄ Fashion, the magazine Vogue gave her an award for her professional career. She began with interior design, but her quest for new forms of expression and a stay in Europe were enough to make her head in a new direction, and so she became a fashion designer. Certainly, she loves contrasts: her women may have the delicacy of a ballerina on tiptoe or the aggressivity of a rock star. A pluralistic style that brings together extremes where fabrics are concerned: evanescent or “crunchy,” such as taffeta with crocodile-skin reliefs. She was chosen “woman of the year” in 1998, while in 1999 she received a special award from her government as an influential figure in the contemporary history of Colombia. Among her well-known clients, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton.
