Shorts

Thigh-length women’s pants that come in different fabrics and materials. They were first introduced as sportwear in the 1930s. The first woman to wear shorts was the American tennis player Alice Marble in 1933, when she wore them on the tennis court. At the time, they came to below the knee and were later associated with Bermuda shorts. In time, shorts became progressively shorter, until they only covered the upper part of the thigh. Hotpants, the trouser equivalent of the miniskirt, were immensely popular at the start of the 1970s but they quickly died out.
