Shamask

Ronaldus (1945). Dutch-born designer who took Australian nationality. His architectural training led him to create two and three dimensional clothes, working with cut and form. Having worked as a window dresser in Melbourne (1963-1966), as a fashion designer in London (1971-1977), and opened a store on Madison Avenue in New York (1979-1986), he was the subject of much speculation in 1981 when, as part of a Fall-Winter collection, he presented a spiral coat whose construction was much prized. Shamask was also one of the first to get interested in Japan, launching his Hakima pants. From 1985, he focused on men’s fashion, employing unusual colors and fabrics.
&Quad;2003, May. He was invited by the Fashion Institute of New York to exhibit drawings, sketches and garments in the exhibition Goddess.
