Sakina M’sa

(1972). For those that live on the Camoro Islands, every object has a soul and its own life. When a loved one dies, an object is often buried with them to stay in contact with the deceased’s soul. When her grandfather died, Sakina M’sa buried a piece of white cotton, which her dog later dug up. Sakina noticed that in the intervening period, it had changed color and appearance. She believes that even items of clothing have an identity that should be respected and a date of birth. Her collections therefore derive from fabrics that have been buried before being used.
