Polac

Juliette (1964). Jewelry designer. Born in Paris, she studied design there and learnt the art of cutting stones at the atelier of Gilles Royaux. She went to live in Crete at the age of 22, and began to work for a jeweler there, who was to become her husband. She opened her own atelier in 1990. In 1993 Naila de Monbrison held an exhibition of Polac’s work at her gallery in Rue de Bourgogne in Paris. Polac currently lives in Athens. As well as in Greece, her jewelry is famous New York and Paris. Her pieces are made from pure gold or hammered silver, and decorated with shells that she has picked up in Morocco or India, or other natural elements that give them a slightly primitive, tribal feel. She has recently produced some silver pieces with sacred figures, inspired by votive offerings from Greek Orthodox churches.
