Pipart

Gérard (1932). French designer. He won the Dé d’Or in 1987. He learned the basics working for Pierre Balmain when he just sixteen. He then worked for Fath and Givenchy, where he stayed until 1953. He served as a soldier in Algeria in 1957, and experimented with military fabrics to find new tailoring techniques. On his return he started a permanent collaboration with Maimé Armodin for Jardin des Modes. He designed for Chloé for five years, but not exclusively, working freelance for other ready-to-wear labels. He returned to haute couture in 1964, working for Nina Ricci where he gave full vent to his passion for the richness of fabrics and shapes.
