Pierluigi Tricot

Pseudonym of Pierluigi Scazzola (1927). Italian designer, born in Rome. He attended a boarding school and then studied law at university. In 1958 he made some blouses from fabric he had hand dyed. His first client was La Rinascente department store, who commissioned him to make some headscarves. He started working with knitted fabrics, using tailoring techniques to produce luxury knitwear. He launched his first collection in 1961 with a runway show at Rome’s Modern Art Gallery, which was greatly admired by Irene Brin. Giorgini chose 20 of Tricot’s designs to include in the Palazzo Pitti shows in Florence, in which Tricot participated until 1977. He showed his “scudo” range made of lurex and wool jacquard at Mare Moda Capri in 1967. He was invited to New York where he was well received by the press and Irene Brin urged him to go to Paris. His first important clients were Jacqueline Kennedy, Lauren Bacall, Rudy Crespi, Claudia Cardinale, Allegra Agnelli, and Bona Frescobaldi. He produced a more commercial range, Tricot Sport, from 1970 to 1975. He produced clothes for his boutique in Via delle Carrozze, which he closed together with the rest of his business in 1997.
