Piatti

Independent company producing plain and embroidered silk shawls, small rugs, cushions, scarves, handkerchiefs, fine lingerie and head scarves for wholesale and export, founded in Como in 1912. In 1925 the owner Carlo Piatti moved the manufacturing business to a factory in Brescia that specialized in the production of fringes, embroideries, and all the other types of accessories they had in their catalogue at the time. The same year the company sponsored a national competition for the design of cross and satin stitch embroidered silk shawls. The business risked failure in 1930, but kept going until the early 1950s. Carlo Piatti is remembered for the national prize he established in 1925 and for the innovations he introduced to the silk industry together with other Como businessmen.
