Mouret

Roland (1961). French designer. Born in Lourdes, he started his career in France, as an artistic director, model, and stylist. In the 1980s he moved to London, working in the fields of music and art. At this same time he created the label People Corporation and opened the Freedom Café in Soho. In February 1998 he presented his first collection at London Fashion Week. He won the British Designer of the Year prize at the Elle Style Awards 2002, and the Vidal Sassoon Cutting Edge Award. His style is one of the major exponents of what might be described as semi-couture: a fashion comprised of unique pieces, with highly-worked details and an emphasis on drapery, cut, silhouette, and the putting together of the fabrics. In 2003, in addition to his primary range, he also designed jeans, knitwear, leatherwear and accessories. He also launched Rm Rough, a jewelry collection with uncut diamonds. His workshop is on the famous Kings Road.
