Moukhina

Vera (1889-1953). Russian sculptress and costumier. She worked in partnership with the designer Nadejda Pétrovna Lamanova at Moscow’s Atelier of Modern Dress. Here she presented individual and original creations: hats and scarves of geometric design, sculptural dresses made out of plastic. The sketches of her clothes were published in the fashion magazines Krasnaia, Niva, and Atelier. In the mid-1920s, Moukhina frequented institutions where experimental modern Russian dress was being produced, such as the fashion atelier and the dress section of the Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow. The printed and embroidered fabrics produced from her designs reflected the new aesthetic criteria which gave preference to the dynamic use of geometric figures. Her creations were presented in Paris at the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in 1925. In 1933 she became a member of the artistic committee of Moscow’s fashion chamber.
