Marabou

A bird belonging to the stork family, with soft gray feathers along the body, becoming particularly light, pale and frothy at the tips of the wings. Marabou feathers were often used in the large, composed hats of the early twentieth century to balance the elongated line of riding-jackets. They were also employed around the hems of the opulent evening dresses of the period, as an alternative to ostrich feathers, or in boas and muffs.
