Manuel Alves & Jose Manuel Gonµalves

A Portuguese brand named for its two founders, who opened a boutique in Bairro Alto in Lisbon in 1981. The two designers also produce theatre costumes and collaborate with the brands Carlo Giotto, Mauritius, and Quazar.
&Quad;1995, the move and subsequent theatrical debut with the costumes for Pirandello’s I giganti della montagna.
&Quad;1998. They created their first prêt-à-porter line, named after the two designers. In the same year they won the Globo de Ouro and the Look Elite for the best collection of the year, going on to win it again in 1999. After theater, they had their first taste of cinema, designing the costumes for João Botelho’s film Trafico.
&Quad;2000. At the opening of Lisbon’s fashion museum, the two designers’ work was represented with garments symbolising their creativity.
