John P. John

(1906-1993). American milliner of German origin. Born in Munich. He learned the profession from his mother while he was still very young. He made his debut in 1928 with the name of John Fredericks, which was turned into Mr. John in 1948. In 1939 he designed the hats for Scarlett O’Hara, alias Vivien Leigh, in Gone With The Wind. Appreciated for his passion for picturesque and spectacular forms, for the plasticity of his ladies’ hats, real sculptures, and for a palette of unusual and audacious colors, he created hats for many of the most elegant women of America and for Hollywood’s divas, such as Rosalind Russell.
