Gioia

Italian women’s weekly founded in 1937. It had 12 pages and cost 40 cents. In 1954 it was acquired by Edilio Rusconi. In 1955, he established Rusconi Publishing with Gente, Gioia, and Rakam. Within a few years the magazine was able to establish itself, giving more space to news. In 1974, after periods under Andreina Vanni and Giuseppe Pardieri, it was edited by Silvana Giacobini, who tried to emphasize a direct dialogue between the readers and the magazine. In January 1995, Vera Montanari became editor and updated the graphic layout, enriching the magazine with thematic supplements. As to the magazine’s relationship with fashion, alongside the traditional features space was dedicated to the new offerings of Italian designers, in order to recommend a quiet prêt-à-porter that avoided excess and unnecessary sophistications.
