Fonssagrives

Lisa (1911-1992). Swedish model. A classic dancer, she moved to Paris during the 1930s. Her first husband was the dancer Fernand Fonssagrives. He pushed her towards a modeling career, showing her photos to Vogue. She posed for Horst and, one by one, for all the great photographers of the 1930s and 1940s. Elegant and sophisticated, but with strong facial features, she represented the ideal of femininity in that period. During the 1950s, she left Paris for New York, met Irving Penn, and married him. She was the trendiest model of her generation and, it seems, the best paid.
