Flanders Fashion Institute

A center for the promotion of Belgian fashion, opened in 2002 in Antwerp. It was conceived by Linda Loppa, the director of the fashion department at the local Academy of Fine Arts. It has more than just a didactic purpose: it is a place which provides a meeting place, the exchange of ideas, and support for young designers. The institute, a non-profit association, also operates as a museum. It collects archives concerning fashion, mounts theme exhibits, and organizes specific workshops for the study and recovery of local textile arts which are at risk of being lost. The project is completely supported by the town, which has donated the building which houses the institute.
