English Eccentrics

English brand of ready-to-wear created in 1982 by Helen David (1955), Judy Littman, and Clare Angel. The idea came from Helen, who specialized in fabric design after her artistic studies at St. Martin’s. At first, the three friends manufactured only printed fabrics following artisanal procedures. They gradually increased their collection with pieces manufactured in their distinctive fabrics. Patterns were inspired by motifs and colors from art history, such as classic decorations and Renaissance frescoes. In 1992, Phaidon Press published a book about them.
On the eve of a show at the Museum of Natural History for London Fashion Week, an article was published in The Guardian about Helen David’s experience in Mexico on the trail of the painter Frida Kahlo.
Some models by the three business friends are kept at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, in the area dedicated to Notable British Fashion Designers.
