Dorothée Bis

Chain of prêt-à-porter boutiques established in Paris in 1962 by Jacqueline Jacobson (1928) and her husband Elie (1925). They opened their first shop on the Left Bank in Rue de Sevrès. Aimed at young people, the ambience was simple, the shop assistants were teenage girls, and the garments on sale (pantsuits and “porthole” dresses) were not available in sizes over 29. In 1964, the shop name became a brand for which Khan, Lagerfeld, Pipart, and Rosier all worked. During the 1970s, Dorothée Bis was very successful thanks to its soft, hand-made knitwear. It has 8 stores in France, and they also carry men’s clothing and sportswear. In 1997, the chain was acquired by the Naf-Naf group.
