Diego Mazzi and Manuela Bortolameolli, a couple in life and at work, founded the Diego M brand in 2003 (where M stands for Manuela).

Diego, from Verona, is the creative soul. His passion for fashion developed since when he was a child when he spent his free time observing women working at Cico, the children’s clothing company owned by his father.  Diego’s sensitive musician soul made him particularly skilled in identifying new opportunities in fashion, combining classic and modern.

THE CREATION OF THE BRAND

In the 80s, the designer saw a market possibility in the creations of coats that combine fur and luxury details with contemporary elements, given by sporty lines and technical fabrics. In 2003 in Lazise, on the shores of Lake Garda, Diego and his wife founded the Diego M company. Manuela took care of the commercial and marketing area as well as being side by side with her husband about the style choices.

THE SUCCESS

The brand was initially born as a women’s brand and underwent great success for the balance of the clothes between elegance and practicality.

In 2006, just three years after the foundation, the showroom opened in via Montenapoleone 19 in Milan. Since then, the company has been growing reaching a 40% increase in turnover in 2017. In 2015 the flagship store opened in Via Venezia in Milan, while in Italy there are 238 multi-brand stores where the brand is marketed.

The Venetian company, however, boasts a distribution that extends to Europe, Russia, and the United States. Significantly, 50% of revenues come from Russia (with 350 customers and two single-brand stores in Perm and Novosibirsk and a showroom in the City of Moscow) followed by Poland and the United Kingdom.

In 2017, after 14 years of activity, Diego inaugurated the first men’s line of the brand. In this regard, Manuela explained that ” the men’s market is complex and competitive: men spend less than women, especially in America. However, with a quality product and an excellent communication strategy, in which we spend a considerable amount of money, the goal is to bring men to account for 30% of turnover in 2018“. For the men’s collection, more attention towards practicality in shapes and fabrics is needed. ” It’s not easy to design men’s fashion; men are demanding consumers who want to have a sober look but also stand out” explained Diego.

THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS AND THE STYLE OF DIEGO M

Among the goals of the two partners, there is New York: the opening of an executive showroom in the Big Apple may be the challenge of 2019. Marta, the 25-year-old daughter of Diego and Manuela lives in the US city and she could contribute to the project as well as the two brothers Matteo and Andrea, who work with their parents in Italy.

In these years of activity, the Diego M brand confirmed its elegant and practical style. The basic idea is to create a jacket that is sporty and comfortable enough to be used all day but elegant enough to be worthy of an evening at the theatre. Materials used vary from the most refined to the most practical and technical ones. Very thin leathers and fur details, but also waterproof materials and breathable fabrics, translucent vinyl. As a result, its a wide range of heat-sealed parkas, bikers, jackets, coats, and windbreakers. That can meet the needs of the most demanding customers on any occasion.
