Colabucci

Corrado Colabucci (1935-2002). Italian designer and costume maker, born in Legnago (Verona). He graduated with a degree in law, out of a sense of duty to his father, who was a famous judge, but was a designer for his pleasure, creating sportswear and wedding dress Collections. He was the most important costume designer for TV shows, for which he dressed (or undressed) numberless very famous personalities including Mina, Milva, Ornella Vanoni, Gabriella Ferri, Sandra Mondaini, Caterina Valente, and Raffaella Carrà. In the years from 1958 (when he made his début in Paris with the costumes for the show La Nouvelle Eve) to 2002, he did important work for Studio 1, Fantastico, Canzonissima, Scommettiamo Che?, and Hallo Word (in Hamburg with Van Johnson and Rita Moreno in 1968). He also did the Judy Garland Show with Sarah Dunes in Las Vegas, and many La Scala performances (in Madrid, Barcelona, and the Canary Islands). Starting in 1984 he often designed costumes for the “grandes revues” at the Moulin Rouge in Paris, including the one that on December 23rd 1999 began the celebrations for the new millennium. Colabucci’s imagination and style have often inspired famous tailors and haute couture designers. He twice received awards at the Montreux Festival “for the best costumes seen on TV networks all over the world.”
