Cellulose Fibers

These exist as acetates and triacetates. They were first obtained by Schutzenberger in 1869 through a chemical process. In 1894 the same researchers who worked on viscose used them for the wings of the planes of World War I. At the end of the conflict, the production of acetate-cellulose was high and demand was low. In 1921, under the brand Celanese, the fiber was marketed as artificial silk. Resistant, robust, and bright, the fashion world liked this fiber and relaunched it.
