Camper

Spanish shoe factory, established in Mallorca in 1877. Almost a century later, in 1975, Lorenzo FluxÄ Jr. relaunched the business of his great grandfather, redesigning the camaleon, the shoes manufactured in fabric and recycled leather traditionally worn by the people of the Balearic islands. The idea was an immediate hit, especially among the young people who were part of the nightlife in Madrid and Barcelona, the nights of the movida. The success allowed the company to bring out more designs. In 1994, FluxÄ began a collaboration with Agnès B., who offered Camper shoes in all her boutiques. Since then, the Mallorca company has increased its turnover and the number of stores all over the world.
The launch of Wabi. Not simply a shoe, but a real lifestyle, inspired by simplicity, tranquility, and meditation. It starts with nature. Wabi, in the Japanese language, means rural. Manufactured in TPU rubber (recyclable, anti-static and resistant) or in felted wool, it has a series of accessories. The internal arch, made of coconut fiber, supports the foot and regulates the temperature.
The Spanish brand’s first New York store is one year old and celebrates with great public success. The Soho headquarters, between Wooster and Prince Streets, and designed by Martì Guixé, recreates the atmosphere of Mallorca, where the brand was born. Camper receives the Fashion Brand of the Year 2000 award, organized by the magazine Footwear News.
Four stores are opened in Italy and fifty more around the world. Another single-brand shop opens in Rome. It overlooks Piazza di Spagna and represents a new concept of a store: that of “a walk in progress.” In fact, it is a store-department with a temporary look, interactive and made with recycled materials. It is a sort of workshop space where you enter not only to buy but also to leave your signature and thoughts on the walls. The Collection is exhibited on a table supported by shoe boxes, in the store’s center. There are four main lines of footwear: Pelotas, inspired by soccer; Twins, an asymmetrical pair; Brothers, with a contoured sole; and, finally, Industrial, hi-tech and comfortable.
