Bustier

Bodice supported by light lateral whalebones with half-moon cups emphasizing the breast. It made its appearance at the end of the 1800s as an article of underwear. A famous example was the one worn by Scarlet O’Hara in Gone with the Wind. Abolished during the 1920s by Poiret, it came back in fashion after the war with Christian Dior’s New Look. Today, it is used as an external garment, with bare shoulders, strapless, and often supported at the side by whalebones. It is a “must” for Summertime. In the 1980s, made with fanciful and glittering fabrics, including stretch, it became an important item for evening.
